No 5 – Mickle Fell

1–2 minutes

High Point of County Durham at 788m.

The challenge for this was to climb a mountain in the middle of a firing range that is only “open” for a few days a year and requires a permit to access.

The walk sounds easy in comparison and other than being very boggy and interesting to navigate over mountain streams and peat bogs dotted with marsh flowers, moss and bog cotton.

Bramble loved the peat, the streams and most especially the sheep who were clearly affronted by the sight of a bedraggled dog straining at her lead as she tried to greet them.

Lunch was a scrummy wholewheat sourdough with pickle and corned beef.

Thanks to the very friendly guard in the guard house at Warcop training camp who logged us in and out again
